DANNY WELBECK is expected to have surgery on his right ankle which could rule him out for the season.

Arsenal medics are still waiting for the swelling to reduce before scans can reveal the extent of the horror injury he suffered on Thursday in the goalless draw against Sporting.

If the injury-plagued striker has broken a bone and damaged ligaments he is facing a significant lay-off.

And that could mean the former Manchester United star, 27, has played his final game for the Gunners, given that his contract is up at the end of the season.
