Walsh the best man for Foxes

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

STEVE WALSH is making an emotional return to Leicester City.

The club’s former director of football has lifted some of the gloom at the King Power Stadium by agreeing to help with the club’s recruitment.

The Foxes have been in mourning since chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha died in a helicopter crash three weeks ago.

But Walsh, who is credited with playing a large part in piecing together the Foxes’ titlewinning squad from two years ago, will resume some responsibilities.

Chelsea’s former chief scout quit his role with the east Midlands club to take a position with Everton as their director of football.

It was during Walsh’s era that several stars who wrote one of the most romantic stories in English football, the Foxes’ 5,000-1 title triumph, were signed.

He sourced talent such as Riyad Mahrez and N’golo Kante and earned a big-money transfer of his own when Everton hoped he could repeat that Midas touch at Goodison Park.

But after Everton boss Ronald Koeman lost his position, Walsh followed from his £1million-a-year post shortly after.
