Eleven bid to topple Sky deal

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

LEEDS owner Andrea Radrizzani is plotting to challenge Sky for the EFL’S next round of TV rights.

The Italian’s Eleven Sports online streaming service is poised to move if the EFL’S £595million, fiveyear deal with Sky is not signed before tomorrow’s 4pm deadline.

Radrizzani, along with Derby counterpart Mel Morris, will lead a 15-strong group of rebel clubs into a meeting with EFL chiefs tomorrow in which they will ask them to tear up the Sky agreement.

That is despite the fact it is an EFL record and represents a 36 per cent rise on the current £88.3m to £119m a season.

Radrizzani, Morris and their allies, including Aston Villa, believe the deal “vastly undervalues” games between the 72 EFL clubs and, in particular, Championship outfits.

The challenge is also understod to have the backing of Nottingham Forest, West Brom, Middlesbrough, Preston and Swansea.

Others, including Brentford, Millwall and Rotherham, are said to support the current set-up.
