Be patient with Michael

- BY PAUL O’HEHIR

MICHAEL OBAFEMI must be allowed to blossom as an international without being saddled with unrealistic expectation.

That is according to defensive leader Shane Duffy who likes the look of the Southampton “baby” who could make his debut in Denmark tomorrow.

Called into the squad for the first time this week, striker Obafemi, 18 (left), was an unused sub in Thursday’s dour draw with Northern Ireland.

Duffy said: “He’s been good and it’s great to see – we want players who want to play for us.

“He’s quiet, he’s a nice lad and looks good, sharp and powerful. But he’s only a baby and we can’t put too much pressure on him.

“We’re all looking for a striker to come out of nowhere but we have to let the kid grow and develop and hopefully he’ll be a good striker for us.”
