Gatland’s super-subs
Wales 74 Tonga 24
WALES coach Warren Gatland praised the impact of his bench players in their emphatic victory over Tonga at the Millennium Stadium after the Pacific islanders had briefly threatened an upset.
Tonga were level at 24-24 early in the second half having scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter, but the introduction of the likes of scrum-half Aled Davies, lock Cory Hill and replacement fly-half Rhys Patchell saw Wales romp to an eighth test win in a row.
Gatland said: “If you look at the game in segments, we started so well, we got ourselves into a bit of a hole then dug ourselves out with an outstanding second half performance.”
