STUART MCCALL reflected on the narrow margins between success and failure after goalkeeper Jak Alnwick starred in a valuable Scunthorpe win.

Alnwick produced a series of fine saves, including stopping a Chris Lines penalty two minutes before former Rovers loanee Matty Lund struck the winner for Iron.

Scunthorpe manager Mccall said: “It’s such fine lines in football sometimes and I can understand if Rovers are feeling frustrated.

“One moment they have a penalty and look like winning the game and the next we go up the other end and get the winner.

“My goalkeeper has been outstanding and we have had to withstand a lot of pressure at a place where it is never easy to get anything.”

The visitors had taken a 15th-minute lead through Lee Novak, before Rovers drew level through Liam Sercombe in first-half stoppage time.

Rovers boss Darrell Clarke, whose side are now in the bottom four, said: “We had loads of chances and scored one goal. They had two opportunities and took them both.

“We have to be more clinical in front of goal if we are to climb the table.

“I have said for some weeks now that we are involved in a relegation battle and that won’t change unless we become more ruthless.”
