RTE’S showpiece crime drama Taken Down was trounced in the ratings by the first episode of I’m A Celebrity…get Me Out Of Here!

The six-part series has been losing viewers but took a beating last Sunday from the British reality show which is shown on Virgin Media One. The third episode had an audience of 313,600 compared to an average 590,000 for the opening night of I’m A Celebrity.

A total of 948,000 tuned in for part of the reality show with viewers peaking at 679,000 – 20% up on last year’s launch. Taken Down follows detectives investigating a murder near a provision centre for refugees.

An RTE spokesperson said: “An average viewership to date for Taken Down of 508,000 is very strong and RTE is very happy with its performance.”
