MUNSTER CLUB SFC FINAL TONY HAS TIGERISH ATTITUDE TO GAME

- BY PAUL KEANE

Dr Crokes v St Joseph’s, Miltown Malbay Gaelic Grounds, 1.30pm

WHEN Tony Brosnan came on against Clare at Croke Park in the 2016 All-ireland quarter-finals, it was meant to be the start of a bright Kerry future.

Yet it remains his only appearance for the Kingdom, with the career of an exciting former minor and U21 attacker looked to have burnt out early.

Fast forward to this September and Brosnan started as a late replacement for Colm Cooper in the Dr Crokes team that played An Ghaeltacht in the Kerry championship.

He hit 1-14 that day, 1-11 from play, and has remarkably been keeping the Gooch on the bench ever since.

In this kind of form, Brosnan (above) could just be the answer’s to Kerry problems in 2019 and new boss Peter Keane will watch him in action in today’s Munster club final.

Crokes and Kerry player Micheal Burns said: “We haven’t spoken with the Kerry management yet.

“We are involved with Crokes and it’s kind of an unwritten thing that they leave players alone when they are with their club. But I presume Tony deserves a look.

“He has been in scintillating form. He is unmarkable on his day and if he gets a call in it will be well deserved.

“Tony has had his share of injuries as well.

“He hurt his wrist and people were nearly writing him off after that. But he was up at training every evening.

“He was doing sprints on the side.

“He was doing as much strength and conditioning work as he could while he was in a cast.

“You could really see a big change in him.

“Maybe that wouldn’t have been his focus a few years ago.

“You can see from even talking to him, he knows he has talent and he wants to make the most of it.”
