Real rum­bles in the jun­gle

SCI­EN­TISTS have come up with a new way of track­ing ele­phants us­ing earth­quake study­ing tech­niques.

Oxford re­searchers found the mam­mals cre­ate vi­bra­tions through move­ments and vo­cal­i­sa­tions, known as “rum­bles”.

Seis­mo­log­i­cal soft­ware that in­cor­po­rates ge­o­log­i­cal in­for­ma­tion was com­bined with al­go­rithms to pro­duce es­ti­mates of the ele­phants move­ments.
