He’s keeping the Wolf from the door

- By RYAN MCELLIGOTT

JOSEPH O’BRIEN’S outstanding run of form continued into Fairyhouse yesterday where he reeled off a four-timer headed by the promising Lone Wolf.

This gelding ended the season with a Punchestown bumper victory, having previously shown up well over hurdles, and he put that experience to good use.

The Mark Walsh-ridden Lone Wolf got the better of Defy De Mee in the closing stages to score by a length and a quarter.

“It’s hard to make up ground when something gets away from you like that. I was quite impressed with him,” said O’brien.

Earlier, Mortal landed the beginners chase under Rachael Blackmore after they edged out Any Second Now by a neck. The J.J. Slevin-ridden Jack Dillinger then made it three winners for the trainer in the novice hurdle before Desir Du Large landed the bumper.

Gordon Elliott was out of luck with Samcro’s raid to Newcastle but he kept his good home form going by landing the featured handicap chase with Duca De Thaix.

The five-year-old, under Davy Russell, defeated Arvico Bleu by five lengths.

Elliott and Davy Russell were earlier successful with Mrs Lovett.
