DNA tests on babies could be a lifesaver
Of newborns Britain could become the first country in the world to screen newborn babies’ DNA for killer diseases including cancer.
It will diagnose our lifelong risk of developing some cancers and predict how tumours will react to various treatments.
Our risk of getting many more conditions, including cystic fibrosis, dementia and heart disease, could also be identified in the new test being developed by government body Genomics England.
The test would replace the traditional baby heel prick test used by the NHS and could save millions of lives.
