F4 racer Billy glad of coma

RACING driver Billy Monger has said he is glad he was in a coma so did not have tell surgeons to amputate his legs.

Billy, 19, lost his lower legs after a Formula 4 crash in April 2017. He said: “The fact that I just woke up and it was done helped.”

Billy has returned to motor racing and will receive the Helen Rollason Award for achievemen­t in adversity at the BBC Sports Personalit­y of the Year.

It is on BBC1 from 7pm tonight.
