Putin’s bid to take control of rap music
President Putin VLADIMIR Putin has threatened to crack down on rap music in Russia.
The president’s comments last night follow a spate of concert cancellations across the country and the arrest of a popular Russian rapper.
Husky – who criticises the government – was jailed for 12 days for a performance then released early following an outcry.
But Mr Putin told officials attempts to ban such artists would only increase their popularity.
“If it’s impossible to stop something, you’ve got to take charge of it,” he said. “How to do this...that’s the most important issue.”
Husky, 25, was arrested when he tried to perform from the roof of a car after a gig was axed in Krasnodar, southern Russia. Roger and Sue Clarke
