Sarri: My team was confused

MAURIZIO SARRI accused his Chelsea players of having a “strange” reaction and suffering from “mental confusion” after Jamie Vardy’s goal in a 1-0 win for Leicester.

The Foxes striker condemned Sarri’s men to their first home defeat of the season, but, crucially, their third Premier League defeat in a month.

The Italian said: “We played very well for 55 minutes, we played very good football.

“After the goal, the reaction was a strange reaction, it was not in the right direction, not as a team, but as 11 different players.

“So it was really very strange.

“We could have done better in the reaction.

“We had only to continue to play as in the first part of the match.

“There was time to score, but the reaction was as a team shocked, a team in mental confusion.”

Leicester boss Puel was criticised for leaving Vardy on the bench for the Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester City in midweek.

Asked whether Vardy’s goal here had justified resting him, the Frenchman said: “I have nothing to justify.

“I am the manager of my team and I always try to do my best to get the right balance to protect some players.

“It helps to get the best out of the other players.

“And I always intend to put a team on the pitch, which has the ability to win the game.”
