George still helping out 2 years on

Late singer’s surprise charity gifts

- EXCLUSIVE BY HALINA WATTS Showbiz Editor

GEORGE Michael’s favourite good causes have received surprise donations from the singer’s estate two years after his death.

As the Wham! star’s family put out a statement to thank fans for continuing his good deeds, the NSPCC’S Childline revealed it has been sent an unexpected boost from George’s estate.

And a Los Angeles AIDS charity also told how gifts that stopped after the singer’s death on Christmas Day 2016 have suddenly started again.

Thanking fans for “paying it forward” in his memory, George’s family said: “Feeling that good people are doing their best in Yog’s name is really heartening.”

An NSPCC source said: “Out of the blue, George has made a consider- able donation to Childline. It is hugely appreciated.” Childline founder Dame Esther Rantzen previously told how the singer secretly gave them the royalties for his 1996 No1 single Jesus to a Child. And he had made annual €22,000 donations to La-based Project Angel Food since 1993 – the year his partner Anselmo Feleppa, 36, died of AIDS. Many stories of George’s secret generosity came to light only after his death from a heart condition aged 53. He gave a Deal or No Deal contestant thousands for IVF, and sent a woman €30,000 after overhearing her in a cafe in tears over her debts. Project Angel Food’s Richard Ayoub said: “We got £20k a year wired to us from George. That was on pause, then I got an email about a donation. It’s really pretty magical.” halina.watts@mirror.co.uk
