Mariah’s sound of the Underground

Dream Lover diva the new voice on the Tube

-

Mind the gap, Mariah

Carey! The US diva is trying to turn around her struggling sales by recording announcements on the Tube.

Mariah is hawking new LP Caution – but it only reached number 40 in the official album charts.

And she failed to make a connection with the listening public as it swiftly dropped out of the top 100 altogether.

So Mariah, 48, has shifted to other kinds of tracks – and hopes commuters on the London Underground will help.

Travellers this week heard her dulcet tones over a Tannoy urging “stay behind the yellow line”, before adding: “Please check out my new album on Amazon.” One disgruntled Tube traveller, Lynda Kelly, said: “Whose big idea was it to pay Mariah Carey to make Tube station announcements? Is this country going mad?” Dr Susannah Mcgowan added: “Why is Mariah Carey doing Tube updates at Waterloo Station? And why not do them in song?” The star failed to fill arenas on her UK tour with thousands of tickets left unsold at some venues earlier this month. But she is still the best-selling female artist of all time, with more than 200million albums shifted.

Her hit All I Want For Christmas Is You is still a festive favourite, 24 years on.

But last year, after her disastrous Mariah’s World TV series aired on E!, her ex Tommy Mottola said: “She should hire more seasoned and respected professionals to help her with her career.”

Mariah, worth an estimated £410million, was spotted splashing the cash wearing bizarre sun glasses in a Louis Vuitton store in Aspen on Friday.

If Mimi does fall on hard times, there’s always a busking spot for her on the Underground. I’m sure she’ll rake in a few pennies...
