Re­spect film to de­pict life of Franklin

AN award-win­ning di­rec­tor has signed up to pro­duce a biopic about Aretha Franklin.

South African-born Liesl Tommy will di­rect Re­spect, a film fo­cus­ing on the life of the singer who died last Au­gust at the age of 76.

Os­car-win­ning ac­tress Jen­nifer Hud­son, 37, who was hand­picked by Franklin to play her, said she is hon­oured to be part of bring­ing Franklin’s story to au­di­ences around the world.

She added: “She is one of the most iconic and tal­ented artists of all time and what a dream come true it is to por­tray her ex­tra­or­di­nary life on screen.”

Cal­lie Khouri, who penned 1991 hit film Thelma & Louise, will write the script.
