Respect film to depict life of Franklin
AN award-winning director has signed up to produce a biopic about Aretha Franklin.
South African-born Liesl Tommy will direct Respect, a film focusing on the life of the singer who died last August at the age of 76.
Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson, 37, who was handpicked by Franklin to play her, said she is honoured to be part of bringing Franklin’s story to audiences around the world.
She added: “She is one of the most iconic and talented artists of all time and what a dream come true it is to portray her extraordinary life on screen.”
Callie Khouri, who penned 1991 hit film Thelma & Louise, will write the script.
