Tony O’brien Correction and apology
Country rocked by smear test scandal, we wrongly stated that the former Director General of the HSE, Mr Tony O’brien, had been a board member of a US company at the time that it carried out cervical smear tests on behalf of the HSE which gave the all-clear to a number of women who developed cancer and that he had since resigned.
We wish to make it clear that Mr O’brien was not and is not a board member of the US company which conducted the tests. We are happy to correct the position and apologise to Mr Tony O’brien for our error and for any confusion caused as a result. We have agreed to pay Mr O’brien damages and legal costs.
