US flight in detour over ill passenger
Shannon A US flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Shannon yesterday after an alarm was raised.
The plane touched down shortly after 3pm when one of the passengers became ill and the Houston-bound jet diverted over the Atlantic.
United flight 879 was flying from London Heathrow and had 199 passengers and 14 crew members on board.
Pilots were forced to dump fuel in order to make a safe landing and were met by fire and rescue units on the ground.
The ill passenger was transported to University Hospital Limerick.
