MINISTER’S MUM AND BABY PROBE MEETING

Zappone set to discuss commission’s bid for extension of report deadline

- BY SYLVIA POWNALL

Corrigan of the Tuam Babies Family Group blasted the request for a second extension and said it was prolonging people’s suffering. Rosemary Adie of Irish First Mothers also expressed dismay and anger. Katherine Zappone Cop splattered in paint attack She said: “I woke to the news the commission of investigation are looking for another year. Another year.

“And I just burst into tears. I’m heartbroken and my mental state is shattered.”

Sheila O’byrne, who was in St Patrick’s Home on the Navan Road in Dublin, said: “It was shocking to read about a year Police pass burning objects in street delay in the paper without any prior warning.

“It was the lowest thing to do. It was despicable and demeaning to survivors. February 15, 2019, is the deadline and we expect that commitment to be met.”

The Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes was set up in 2015 and was originally tasked to complete its work by this time last year.

A revised deadline of February 2019 was agreed amid claims the probe was a whitewash and survivors were being denied the opportunity to give sworn testimony.

It is understood in recent weeks the commission received a significant amount of new data, mainly from the Department of Health.

Ms Corrigan said: “These people do not have our best interests at heart. They are so afraid now, caught in the cross hairs of the world media.”
