Tottenham are all about momentum so why would Poch want to rest Kane?

-

much criticism of Spurs and their manager Mauricio Pochettino for playing Kane in all the games – and so many suggestions that it will harm them in the long run – because they don’t have a squad to cope. Well, maybe that’s the point. How about this? Perhaps Pochettino knows he doesn’t have a squad with quite the depth of Manchester City or Liverpool, but he DOES know momentum is a powerful force in football.

Maybe he’s going strong when he can, to get the momentum and confidence within his side, so when the injuries do come (and they seem to come, whether you rotate or not) they are on such a roll they can absorb absences, even to key players.

If Tottenham keep winning as they have, who is to say it won’t instil massive belief in their side, and keep them going on.

Momentum is always a factor in the game. When you are winning there is a buzz and belief around the training ground that becomes addictive.

The funny thing is, Manchester United have that at the moment too, which makes today’s game so fascinating. A few weeks ago, you’d have put your mortgage on Jose Mourinho going to Wembley and getting trounced, another game where the opposition played with more imagination and confidence than United. A new manager, though, a change in style to give his players freedom and belief in their ability and a decent subsequent run of results makes this game so interesting. Tottenham will believe they’re still better – and they probably are. But United now have the style and talent to do them some real damage. People will say they’ve only won games so far that they should have won, but answer this question: Does anybody out there seriously believe they’d have won all of those games under Mourinho? That’s my point about confidence and momentum. You need to foster and promote it, and the best way to do that is to pick the best team to keep winning matches. Harry Kane knows that. He wants to play, he wants to score goals. He wants to finish top scorer, he lives for that moment where he has that chance. But, most of all, he wants to help Spurs be a success. Can anyone fault him for that?
