Lovell feels for Clough

Burton 2 Gillingham 3

STEVE LOVELL conceded Burton did not deserve to be left empty-handed following a five-goal thriller.

Gillingham substitute Josh Rees scored a stoppage-time winner after Burton midfielder Scott Fraser’s brace had cancelled out first-half goals from Elliott List and Callum Reilly (penalty).

Gills manager Lovell said: “For Josh Rees to come on and get the winning goal was just amazing really and it was an excellent three points for us.

“I thought that Burton were fantastic. I think they deserved to get something out of the game.”

Burton boss Nigel Clough (below), whose side were beaten 9-0 by Manchester City in midweek, said: “Gillingham couldn’t cope with how we were playing and they were hanging on.

“But you have to make them pay and whereas the top teams, as we witnessed on Wednesday night, make you pay, we are certainly not a good enough side to do that right now.”
