Aidan & Otis including great walks, which we enjoyed with our pooch Otis.

A stroll to nearby Thorpeness is worth the effort. The walk along the beach will take you past the Scallop, a tribute to Suffolk composer Benjamin Britten by local sculptor Maggi Hambling.

Britten was the founder of the Aldeburgh Festival which takes place every June. There are a couple of cafés in Thorpeness, including one just by the Meare Aldeburgh in Suffolk The Brudenell Hotel is right on the beach

boating lake. If you fancy something stronger The Dolphin Inn is a fine pub.

For a lengthier walk take the Sailor’s Path running six miles inland to Snape Maltings – home to a concert hall, as well as studios, workshops, places to eat, shops, a nature reserve and sculpture park. The trail used to be frequented by smugglers but these days is the preserve of energetic dog walkers.

Slightly further afield on the heritage coast is Southwold, which has one of the country’s most entertaining and eccentric piers. Nearby, the delightful village of Walberswick is great for kids who want to experience the art of crabbing.

A perfect slice of the stunning seaside.
