‘Boo-boys would love Euro glory’

- BY CHRIS HATHERALL

SERGIO AGUERO insists the club’s fans LOVE the Champions League – and he’s determined to win it for them.

City fans habitually boo the Champions League anthem, reflecting a feeling that UEFA has treated their club badly over the years.

That feeling remains, with Financial Fair Play still on the agenda at European football’s governing body – even though City are not officially under investigation.

But Aguero insisted: “For me, there’s huge value to winning the Champions League, and I think it’s also the same for our fans.

“To win the Champions League would fulfil a personal dream. I won a Europa League and a European Super Cup at Atletico, and I would like to complete the set. But I know it’s not easy.”

City face Schalke away in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday and, although Aguero expects a tough test, he admits the draw could have been far worse.

He said: “Schalke will be tough opponents, but I am not complaining about the result of the draw.

“I respect them a lot, but there were more complicated teams. So it’s up to us to play well and go through.”

Aguero often saves his best performances for Europe, and considering his flying form in the Premier League, that’s bad news for Schalke fans.

He said: “I’m happy with the way I’m playing, but I think I can still give more on the field and that’s my focus.

“I have never started a season with a specific number of goals to score in mind.

“What interests me is the number of games that City win. At this club, we know that individuals on their own don’t decide victories.”
