Poch blows his top
MAURICIO POCHETTINO lost the plot with referee Mike Dean at Turf Moor as Spurs blew a golden chance to crash the title race. The Tottenham boss is likely to face an FA charge after he stormed on to the pitch at full-time and raged at Dean.
Pochettino felt the officials blundered by giving Burnley a 57th-minute corner from which Chris Wood headed the Clarets’ opening goal.
Pochettino said: “You know how important the game was, and when you feel so upset and disappointed, you make
some mistakes. We made some mistakes on the pitch – and I made some mistakes afterwards on the pitch.
“I needed to go to the dressing room and drink some water, but what happened has happened.
“Maybe I should go and apologise to the referee. I will accept everything that can happen from the FA, but after the things that happened on the pitch, I hope they won’t go any further.”
Although the returning Harry Kane cancelled out Chris Wood’s (above) opener eight minutes later, Spurs were beaten when Ashley Barnes grabbed a Burnley winner seven minutes from time.
Tottenham trail the top two by five points.
Pochetinno added: “I said this game was going to be key to put pressure on our opponents.
“But we didn’t win – and we cannot think of us now being a real contender for the title.
“It is a massive opportunity lost for us.
“But if we need to find someone to blame, then it is me.”
