C PALACE 3

- By SIMON BIRD at Turf Moor CRYSTAL PALACE: MAN OF THE MATCH:

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson (below) asked Zaha in January to get him another five goals before the end of the season.

Zaha delivered his fifth in the last five games to hit his manager’s target – and was then told to do it all again.

The winger lit up the game with the third goal with a Phil Bardsley own goal and Michy Batshuayi making it a comfortable win.

Zaha slithered around the edge of the box all game, frightening the Burnley defence, and creating the own goal opener. But he cut loose in the 76th minute to get one of his own.

Cheikhou Kouyate won the ball and fed Zaha 18 yards out. Defenders Charley Taylor and Ben Mee were lured in by Zaha who jinked right, taking them with him, then cut back as they tried not to fall over, before firing home.

Hodgson said: “Wilf promised me he would score at least five before the end of the season. We are going to double it, I want 10 now.

“Wilf was good. He is always good. He is a dangerous player to mark.” Palace have harvested 20 of their 33 points on their travels. And they were on their way here within 15 minutes.

Kouyate drove forward and slipped Zaha down the right. The talisman’s centre skidded across goal and the lightning-quick Jeffrey Schlupp smashed back... pinballing it into the net off Bardsley.

Clarets keeper Tom Heaton, watched by England boss Gareth Southgate ahead of a squad announcement a week on Wednesday, had no chance.

Just after the interval Aaron Wanbissaka pinged over a first-time cross which on-loan Batshuayi smashed in.

Wan-bissaka’s role will not have gone unnoticed by Southgate. He had a fine game.

Burnley were ordinary before a late rally in which Ashley Barnes headed in Ashley Westwood’s cross. Moments later Peter Crouch was denied by a fingertip save from Wayne Hennessey.

Boss Sean Dyche said: “Palace found the clinical moments and we didn’t. A moment of quality was missing. The third goal has got under my skin.” BURNLEY: Heaton 5, Bardsley 5, Tarkowski 5, Mee 5, Taylor 5, Hendrick 5, Westwood 6, Cork 5, Mcneil 5 (Brady 71, 5), Barnes 6, Wood 5 (Crouch 80) Subs not used: Hart, Lowton, Gudmundsson, Gibson, Vydra.
