COUNTRY star Cliona Hagan would love to represent Ireland at Eurovision.

The Tyrone woman will compete tonight in the quarter-finals of Dancing With The Stars. She said: “This week is Eurovision week, I’m really excited about this one. “The Eurovision was a big part of my childhood, all of our cousins would gather to watch it together, I have very fond memories of those times. “I would love to represent Ireland in the Eurovision if they allowed me to. “I would be honoured to represent my country in such a prestigious event, maybe in 2020, you never know.” Cliona also wished this year’s Eurovision entry Sarah Mcternan, from Co Clare, every success in the event. She said: “She is such a lucky young girl and I wish her the best of luck, I hope Ireland do a fantastic job this year.” The star remained tight-lipped about the song she will dance to tonight but revealed she will be performing the Charleston. Cliona said: “I was excited when I was given the song – it is a fun and an upbeat dance and I get to play a specific character in it.

“I know all the words to the song and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have been working on, it’ll be a good laugh.”

The 30-year-old added she didn’t believe she would make it to the quarter-finals in a dancing contest.

She said: “Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d make it this far, I am very grateful and thankful and it shows if you put the hard work in it pays off.

“I am really proud and please God I will make it to the final and fly the flag for country music.”

Cliona, who is the favourite to win the competition, believes actor Johnny Ward is the one to beat.

She said: “One million percent Johnny is my biggest competitor, he is an amazing dancer.

“He is a fabulous singer too, I am constantly telling him he doesn’t realise how talented his voice is, he is such a creative person and a friend for life.” Cliona added she will incorporate dancing into her music.

She said: “I will definitely keep dancing and add it into my concerts down the line.”

Dancing With The Stars is on RTE One tonight at 6.30pm.
