Chilling footage of suspected killer in top busking event
CHILLING footage has emerged of the man suspected of killing a mum and her daughter playing at a busking competition.
Gisella Marimon-herrera, 37, and her 15-year-old daughter Allison were found dead in their home at Glin Ree Court in Newry on Thursday.
Police said Allison, a Newry High School pupil, had been strangled and there was a strong possibility her mum had died the same way.
Russell Steele, 38, was thought to have been in a relationship with Gisella for nine months. His body was also found in the Co Down flat and police said he died by hanging.
Detectives launched a murder inquiry following the grim discovery but said while their investigation remains at an early stage, there is no evidence anyone else was involved.
Now footage of Steele, who was originally from Kilmarnock, in Ayrshire, has emerged, showing him playing the guitar and singing Oasis hit Half The World Away less than a year before the tragedy unfolded.
The eerie video of the Scotsman resurfaced from when he took part in Banbridge Buskfest festival last June.
Wearing a beanie and white T-shirt, Steele appears calm and comfortable in front of the camera as he performs.
Just months after the footage was taken, Steele would be the prime suspect in two deaths.
Gisella’s devastated father Fabian Marimon said he feared his daughter was murdered by her lover in a fit of anger over news she was leaving to go back to live in her native Colombia.
He added they had last spoken on Saturday, the day before it is believed she was killed.
The only thing Gisella had told him about her boyfriend was “the guy was fine, apparently he worked in construction”.
Her sister, who lives in Northern Ireland, was sent to knock on the flat door on Thursday after they had not heard from Gisella for several days.
Fabian said the family could not afford to bring the bodies home.
