How I coped with.. antenatal anxiety

- Anna Ceesay, 33, Beckenham, Kent ■ Find out more about Anna’s magazine at motherdom.co.uk

I was pregnant with my second child in 2017 when I started suffering from low mood and anxiety.

I was lucky to be fast tracked to see a perinatal clinical psychotherapist and had about 12 sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) with her until my baby was six months old.

The sessions were incredible. It was sometimes really hard, but also fun. After being very hesitant at first, I started to look forward to it.

CBT taught me that I’m more than my thoughts, that my thoughts don’t need to control me, and that I can even change my patterns of thinking. After finishing my course, I felt a lot better in myself but wanted to help other mums who might be going through something similar.

I’m a journalist so decided to create a quarterly magazine dedicated to parents’ mental wellbeing.

It’s called Motherdom and we just published the first issue.
