Ear sensors to keep track of dementia

-

Clever technology to help keep dementia sufferers at home for as long as possible could be available in the next five years.

Sensors small enough for the ear, sleep monitors and robotic devices are being developed at Imperial College London.

Scientists and doctors are trying to develop an ear device that tracks brain activity and uses radar technology to track people’s movements at home.

Sensors will also be created to remotely monitor heart rate, sleep cycles and blood pressure.

The team, at the new Care Research and Technology Centre at Imperial College, say the equipment is affordable and “could be usable in five years”.
