EVEREST TO PEAK Martin’s star and Riven are two to follow

- BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT

This talented Tony Martin inmate is just three pounds higher than when winning this race last year which makes him an appealing prospect.

In addition the six-year-old comes here off a fine fifth place finish in last month’s English Cesarewitch.

He was beaten almost 12 lengths at Newmarket which leaves him with plenty to find against this afternoon’s top weight Stratum.

However, he did shape better than the bare result last time and there is probably more to come from him on the flat.

Willie Mullins launches an eight strong challenge for the day’s feature but he might just have to settle for a minor role this time.

The champion trainer should make his mark elsewhere though and his Riven Light is the choice in the Listed Finale Stakes.

This seven-year-old has yet to win this season but he has run some good races at this level.

Elsewhere on the Naas card

Donnacha O’brien can put the seal on another memorable season with a double.

He can land the second of the two-year-old maidens on Nobel Prize who is looking to build on a good run in a Leopardstown maiden a couple of weeks ago.

O’brien can also strike on Love Locket who makes plenty of appeal in the nursery.

Centre stage goes to the Paddy Power Cork National at the southern track today.

Cloudy Morning makes plenty of appeal after showing up well in a couple of races over shorter than ideal trips.

The last time she stepped beyond three miles she routed her rivals in a good handicap chase at the Punchestown Festival in May.

Perhaps the race of the day is the Grade 3 novice chase where the Cheltenham Festival hero Any Second Now is put forward to make a winning return.

In the Listed novice hurdle Blazing Emily is tipped in the hope that stepping up to three miles will bring out the best in her.

Minella Melody could be a very smart novice hurdler this season and her bumper form earns her the vote in the mares maiden hurdle.
