The actress, who is married to former rugby ace Brian O’driscoll, admitted the constant fear of failure pushed her to strive harder. Amy, 40, said: “It can be such a chaotic world where you have very little control, more often than not you won’t get the part you’re going for. “It can be quite exhausting living like that. “There were times where it would affect my self-confidence massively. “All it can be sometimes is rejections. “But it gives you huge gratitude when something works for you. “It pushes me to create my own work, which I would never have done had I not been out of work and utterly confused and lost.” The star of The Clinic and Striking Out, who is busy writing a second series of her RTE comedy Finding

Joy, also revealed how Brian’s efforts to date her had bowled her over.

Spilling the beans on their relationship to Mary Mcaleese on RTE’S All Walks of Life, which airs on Friday at 8.30pm, Amy said: “I was on Tubridy Tonight in 2006 doing press for The Clinic.

“He was at home injured and he recognised a mutual friend of ours.

“They orchestrated a meet-up. Sport wasn’t really on my radar but I knew who he was obviously. “The first time I met him I thought, ‘God he’s so lovely’ and he’s so, you know, humble.

“He told me three months later he’d set it up. He said, ‘Is that really bad?’ and I said ‘No, I think it’s great you made such effort’.”

The couple tied the knot at a ceremony in Co Leitrim in 2010 and have two children – Sadie, six, and fiveyear-old Billy. And speaking of Brian’s retirement from international rugby in 2014, she said: “It was a huge transition.

“No matter how hard they try to prepare for it it’s very difficult.

“One day you’re a player and the next day you’re not. He loved what he did. Then it’s the fear of, ‘Will I love anything else as much?’”
