Trek a look at me now

-

Last week I completed a 30-mile run/walk/trek in our beautiful countryside organised by the Long Distance Walking Association.

It’s only the second LDWA event I have done but they are probably the most inclusive and best value opportunities to get out on a long distance, supported event that one can find.

These are not races – you can walk or run. It’s all about getting outside and meeting like-minded people while improving your fitness.

Routes aren’t marked so you either read from a map, follow written directions or tag behind someone else who (hopefully) is not lost!

Don’t get me wrong, 30 miles is a long way and, if walking slowly, spending 10 hours on your feet is no easy day.

There is no medal – just a certificate of completion and the satisfaction of doing it.

And with snacks at checkpoints and smiling volunteers, it’s just the best value for only £10!

It does make me question why some races cost so much but I guess that’s the difference between a not-for-profit organisation and a business?

Meeting up with an old mate, Andy, and new friend Grant made the day fly by as we did it all together – even though I had my obligatory face plant in the mud! So if you fancy a challenge and are maybe on a budget have a look at ldwa.org.uk.

The organisation welcomes people of all ages and abilities and runs events across the UK. Membership is just £18 a year.

I will certainly do more challenges to help stay fit while meeting more great people with smiles, sweat and maybe a few tears along the way. Until next week, Kev
