‘SPURS WERE SO GOOD AT DIVING!’

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

THE LAST time Aaron Pierre faced Premier League opposition, he ended up asking Tottenham striker Heung-min Son to stand still.

The Shrewsbury Town’s centre-back (right) could be facing at least one of Liverpool’s elite strike force this afternoon.

Pierre, 26, was in the Wycombe Wanderers side that played Spurs in the fourth round three years ago.

He recalled: “Spurs? Don’t get me started on that... it was a ridiculous experience. First of all, my dad’s a Tottenham fan. He said he was happy, but put on a sad face for me.

“He even sat among the Wycombe fans, but he kept nudging a few of his Spurs mates and giving them the thumbs-up. “We were winning 2-0 at one stage and then they put on a couple of the big boys. “Then I gave away a penalty – it wasn’t one really but these Premier League players are good at diving – but we still put in a big performance.

“But what I remember most is Son – wow! He’s the best player I’ve ever played against. It was a joke, he never stopped moving. I couldn’t even catch him to kick him.

“I was like, ‘If you could just stand still for a moment...’ He kept dropping back into midfield to get the ball and I had to follow him.

“I actually felt like asking him to stop. I think I did, actually – but it didn’t work!”

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is set to ring the changes today, but Pierre would rather he didn’t.

He said: “It would be nice to play against Sadio Mane or Mo Salah. And I’d like Virgil van Dijk’s shirt!”
