MOUR TIME IS VITAL
JOSE MOURINHO finds himself under a bit of pressure already at Spurs because results haven’t gone his way since he came in.
In his defence, he has inherited a side that had clearly fallen apart under the previous manager, one that was riven by divisions and had problems with player contracts, with money and with recruitment.
It takes time to sort that out. It takes time to get rid of the unhappy players, the bad apples and the ones whose financial gripes are undermining morale.
He knows he doesn’t have much time because these days a run of bad results, even in your first few months, can be fatal.
The fans are used to Mauricio Pochettino’s style and so the way Jose plays – with more pragmatism and with some caution – can be difficult for them.
But the fact is that he is dealing with a squad which has struggled all season and a team that no longer works together.
So he has to make the best of it and try to get some results in order to give him the time he needs.
Without Harry Kane, that will be tough – especially if he doesn’t get a replacement in this window.
And that makes it even more likely he will have to try and scrap out a few results to get through to the summer.
I reckon it will take a few transfer windows to sort that out at Spurs, especially because their chairman has form when it comes to pushing a hard bargain.
I don’t know whether Jose will get the time to do those transfers.
But you can bet he will do anything he can to buy it.
