Bears put money on the table
DOUGLAS PARK says Rangers will pay for an independent investigation into the SPFL themselves if it’s voted for at Tuesday’s EGM.
The Ibrox chairman’s offer will throw a cat among the pigeons after SPFL bosses warned member clubs that agreeing to Gers’ resolution would be a costly exercise.
They sanctioned their own inquiry through Deloitte, which concluded there was no wrong-doing on the part of either CEO Neil Doncaster, chairman Murdoch Maclennan or legal advisor Rod Mckenzie. But Park said: “Cost should never be a barrier to proper governance.
“If our resolution is passed we will be willing to fund the costs of an independent investigation.”
The SPFL hit back at
Rangers’ dossier of evidence questioning their conduct and processes, with a series of accusations against the club, Park and managing director Stewart Robertson, who is on the SPFL board. They alleged Park made a threat to Doncaster, but the Ibrox chief rejected that claim and also backed Robertson, who’d been accused of failing in his duties.
Park said: “It’s the first time I can recall having been accused of making a threat. It’s offensive, crass and downright wrong.”
Park, who revealed Gers’ funding gap of £10million has been filled, is encouraged by the level of support their dossier has had from clubs.
He said: “There’s an apparent culture of fear as we can see from the number of clubs that privately seem to have an issue with some of the things we raised.”
