Binging Mcmafia... despite the name
Family mob drama is perfect viewing for staying on sofa
DOCUMENTARY-MAKER Louis Theroux goes behind bars on BBC Two tonight to talk and mingle with some of America’s most dangerous criminals. He also learns how the convicts at San Quentin State Prison have created their own world, complete with a brutal code of conduct, and how they cope with the prospect of spending the rest of their days behind bars. His brave antics make Louis our hero of the week. favourite and super suave James Norton, had me from the get-go.
Filled with suspension and great acting, the programme follows the son of a Russian mafia crime boss,
Alex Godman, played by Norton, being dragged into the family firm following his uncle’s killing. Alex, who is a legitimate businessman, has managed to avoid being
James Norton & Sofia Lebedeva involved in the criminal empire but now must go head-to-head with cartel bosses to protect his loved ones.
I absolutely loved the show, which stars Sofia Lebedeva as Lyudmilla Nikolayevna, and looked forward to watching it every night for the past week. Despite there only being one series, there are plans for a second season. I have no doubt this show, which is based on the book Mcmafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld by journalist Misha Glenny, will catapult its cast to bigger and better shows across the pond.
I can even envision Norton’s name being thrown into the hat to play the next James Bond.
If you haven’t already seen this show, get on it.
