Ed Bhoy lifts Kennedy bow

Scottish Round-up

CELTIC made a winning start to life after Neil Lennon with a 1-0 win over ABERDEEN.

Interim boss John Kennedy – who stepped in after Lennon quit the Bhoys last Wednesday – masterminded a victory thanks to Odsonne Edouard’s early deflected strike off Tommie Hoban.

Celtic’s win keeps runaway leaders Rangers seven points from the title after a week of turmoil for the Hoops.

And Kennedy said: “We started positive, played well and pushed Aberdeen back.

“We scored a good goal and had a few good chances but when you don’t get that second goal it changes the game.

“We knew Aberdeen would come after us and probably didn’t respond well enough.

“We gave the ball away too much in the second half in areas we shouldn’t and when the game is stretched it doesn’t suit us.

“But credit to the players in the way they defended the box and dealt with the pressure.”

Aberdeen created little before Niall Mcginn’s corner found Ash Taylor at the back post. The defender’s header looked to be going in but Partyk Klimala was on the line to clear the danger.

It was a disappointing day for the visitors as they failed to close the gap on third-place HIBERNIAN, who slipped up 2-0 against MOTHERWELL.

Jordan Roberts inspired Well to victory with a goal and an assist.

The forward, who is on loan from Hibs’ city rivals Hearts, opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a calm finish.

Roberts then set up Devante Cole to add another within a minute of the second half.

Zech Medley scored KILMARNOCK’S first goal in 571 minutes to end an eight-game losing streak in a 1-1 draw against DUNDEE UNITED.
