Shane Macgowan’s wife reveals singer connects with other-worldly beings
DOUBLE ACT Shane & Victoria on Late Late Show
VICTORIA Mary Clarke says her husband Shane Macgowan is connected to aliens and ghosts.
The 55-year-old has her own line of scarves and the Dubliner believes angels come to her in her hour of need.
She told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “Shane is very spiritual and connected with nature, particularly when he was a child.
“He’s connected to ghosts too and otherworldly beings.
“He used to see ghosts and aliens, you name it.”
The Angel In Disguise author married Macgowan in Copenhagen in 2018. They tied the knot after an 11-year engagement and Victoria opened up on why she left him briefly, when things got rough. She ended up staying in a seedy bedsit to escape the rock ’n’ roll life, but found comfort in paving her own way. Victoria said: “I had absolutely no money, I was living in this hideous bedsit, I was so broke, that’s why I started writing.” She left the frontman of The Pogues because he wouldn’t quit drugs after they both went to rehab. Victoria said: “We both went to the Priory, but when we came out, he carried on doing the drugs and I couldn’t face it anymore. I was like, ‘I have to get out of here’, so I went to stay with my sister in Dublin.
“I shared a bunk bed with my nephew, then I got my bedsit after I wrote a few pieces for a newspaper.
“It took about another year of me living like that until I got a bigger bedsit.”
Despite leaving him, Victoria was still deeply in love and never fully cut ties with the punk singer.
She confessed: “I kept in touch with Shane, we were spending more and more time together.
“But I became my own person and had my own thing and it was separate.”
Trying to quit drugs, the Fairytale Of New York hitmaker went to get help
from a spiritual healer. Victoria said: “Completely independent of me, he went to see a healer on Achill Island called Katherine. She told him he had demons and he felt them coming out.
“Then he went to a clinic in London and they helped him get off heroin, it was his own choice.”
Enigmatic writer Victoria admitted trying heroin once but said she didn’t like it – instead she lists chocolate as her biggest vice.
She added: “I don’t know why people do drugs, chocolate is much better.
“That was my main addiction – food and sugar.”
