DELIGHTED staff at the shop where a winning €12.7million Lotto ticket was sold hope the new multimillionaire will pop in and say hello.

A lucky punter from Kilkenny claimed the top prize from lottery headquarters on Thursday – but mystery still surrounds their identity.

The golden ticket was sold on the day of the draw at the Circle K petrol station on the Waterford Road on the outskirts of Kilkenny city.

Yesterday, celebrations were underway after National Lottery bosses revealed they were the retailer that sold the slip yielding this year’s highest jackpot.

Store manager Marie Richards told the Irish Sunday Mirror customers were buzzing as word spread locally.

She said: “It’s something you’d hear of but you don’t realise it’s actually going to happen in your store – it’s wonderful news, especially that it is potentially a local person as well makes it all the more exciting. We just knew it was won in Kilkenny and we were having great craic with the customers. “Everyone was coming in wondering had we heard or had we won it. “We hadn’t heard anything until Friday evening, it was a real

EXCITED surprise to us. Most of the customers were coming in checking their own tickets, messing and joking had they won.

“We still don’t know who the winner is, so we wait and hope and see they might come in and say hello to us.”

The jackpot winner chose the numbers for Wednesday’s draw themselves, the biggest top prize in four years. The midweek jackpot was the 12th highest win since the game began in 1988.

Ms Richards said some customers will hope some of Wednesday’s luck rubs off on them.

She added: “Some people really go like that, they’d buy more tickets and definitely it’s great publicity for the store.

“There’s a great buzz and atmosphere around, Covid isn’t being mentioned.

“Everyone is in such great form, it’s great to see something positive happen in these strange times. It’s wonderful.

“We’re just on the outskirts of town so we’re quite a residential store mainly, but we would get a lot of passing traffic heading for the motorway.

“I’m not sure what kind of a customer has bought the lucky ticket, were hoping that it’s one of our locals that are usually in to us so fingers crossed.

“Either way they’re lucky and we wish them all the best with it.”

It’s wonderful, we wait and hope and see if they might come in and say hello to us MARIE RICHARDS KILKENNY YESTERDAY
