Hotel of the week

- ELAINE MCCAHILL

Resident Hotel Soho, London

WHERE AND WHY

Situated right in the heart of Soho, there is no better spot for exploring all the best restaurants, bars and attractions that central London has to offer.

You can spend hours roaming around Soho’s winding streets sampling all the cafes and shops while never being more than a few minutes from your hotel. Attractions such as the London Eye and Madame Tussauds – with discounted tickets for resident guests – are a leisurely half-hour walk away.

The hotel is very slick and modern with a luxe communal lounge and immaculate rooms. Despite being in the centre of town, there was no noise and we slept soundly thanks to thick blackout curtains.

COVID CHECK IN

We felt extremely safe with staff wearing masks and screens at reception.

Each room is sanitised between guests, who wear masks when outside their rooms, while staff keep them on at all times. There’s hand sanitiser in reception and before entering all the lifts.

ON THE MENU

The Resident offers the best of both worlds. It’s in the middle of Soho with some of the best restaurants and bars on your doorstep but each guestroom also has a mini-kitchen if you don’t feel like venturing out.

So while the hotel itself doesn’t have a bar or restaurant, each room has its own microwave, kettle and fridge. The hotel even offers a grocery package option where guests can request everything from juices to baked goods for delivery prior to arriving.

But if you’re keen to enjoy the bustling streets of Soho, the nearby Scarlett Green is just around the corner, which has a great vibe with live DJS and porn star Martinis.

Their Spicy Tuna Tostada (£10) is particularly good as is their famous Melbourne Mars Bar Cheesecake Ball for dessert (£8.60).

WHILE YOU’RE THERE

Soho is home to a myriad of gorgeous coffee shops and brunch spots, and we enjoyed a Sunday morning stroll through the quiet streets before some coffee and croissants at the fabulous Maison Bertaux.

It was lovely to see Soho slowly waking up after the buzz of the night before, followed by taking a stroll through the city streets and across to the South Bank.
