MEET the Irishwoman whose lockdown hobby of dressing up as household objects has just landed her a new career.

Taryn De Vere devoted the entire month of January to “being creative” – and now it’s paid off in more ways than one. Dressing up as anything from a can of beans to a bottle of drain unblocker has earned her thousands of online followers – with job offers from big brands now flooding in. Taryn, from Ramelton in Co Donegal, told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “I worked in social media management and the two years of the pandemic were really gruelling. “So I decided to take January off and devote it to just being creative before I started looking for a new job. “I thought, If I’m stuck in the house why not be inspired by the house? “Then, on December 31, my eye caught the bottle of sink unblocker and it went from there. “Now it looks like I’m about to get paid to dress as objects, I’m in talks with a number of brands.” Taryn is known for her flamboyant style but the challenge has seen her take it to the next level.

Each ensemble – from toothpaste to a tin of Quality Street – is colourful and bold and would not look out of place on a runway.

Taryn, a vintage clothes devotee and accessories designer, revealed: “My one rule to myself was I was not allowed to buy anything new.

“I had to use the things I have, but I’ve been collecting vintage clothes since my teenage years so I have a huge range.

“I get really proud and excited about each outfit. My favourite one is the Bird’s Custard.”

Posting her latest creation daily on social media has attracted global interest and Taryn now has fans across the US, Australia, Europe and even Iran. And she admitted she has raised a few eyebrows wearing her costumes out and about.

She said: “People generally know I’m an eccentric dresser anyway so most don’t comment.

“One woman asked, ‘What are you today?’, and just nodded and said, ‘Good work’, when I said I was a three-pack of peppers.

“I find it a bit hilarious that I was looking for something fun and relaxing to do for the month of January.

“Yet it ended up being a whirlwind and just so much fun.”

I get really excited, my favourite is the Bird’s Custard TARYN DE VERE DONEGAL YESTERDAY
