Garda abuser to leave top security clink

EXCLUSIVE JAILED former garda Paul Moody is expected to be moved from the highsecurity Midlands Prison to Arbour Hill to serve out his sentence.

The domestic abuser, jailed for three years and three months for a campaign of terror on a woman ill with cancer, will be housed with other locked up ex gardai.

Two former members of An Garda Siochana are currently serving sentences at Arbour Hill, which primarily houses long-serving inmates and those considered low risk.

The ex-gardai, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are not considered to pose a danger to staff or other inmates and Moody, 42, looks set to join them.

Prison chiefs believe there is less chance of Moody – prisoner 116829 – being targeted by Arbour Hill inmates.

The Dublin lock-up counts serial killer and rapist John Shaw, Ireland’s longest serving prisoner, and killer David Lawlor among its inmates.

A source told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “Moody is currently in the Midlands but he’s unlikely to stay there.

“There are two former officers at Arbour Hill and he is likely to join them soon.

“There is never any trouble at Arbour Hill and Moody will face less of a chance of being targeted due to his former profession and the horrendous crime he has committed.

“He could be transferred within the next few months.

“If he is moved he will have the opportunity to work in one of the workshops and take an educational course.”

With standard remission, Moody could be released by the end of 2024.

After his sentencing hearing last month his brave victim, referred to as ‘Nicola’ in court, spoke out about the pain and suffering she had endured at his hands.

The court heard how during one 14-hour period, Moody sent her 652 messages, one every 90 seconds, describing her as “riddled with cancer”.

Twisted Moody, who assaulted her and stole her cancer medication during his hateful campaign, told her he hoped she would “get raped and bleed” on holiday.

Speaking out after he was sentenced, Nicola said: “No one deserves to get away with treating anyone like this.

“No human being should treat another human being this way, it’s cruel and beyond evil.”
