Angry Robins set for new pitch battle

-

MARK ROBINS may have little control over Coventry’s home games, but admitted his players were to blame for throwing away a two-goal lead at Millwall.

The Sky Blues boss labelled the stand off over the state of the CBS Arena pitch – which has now forced them to postpone Tuesday’s visit of Wigan – an “utter disgrace”.

Coventry are working to move Saturday’s fixture to Huddersfield, with Robins convinced they won’t be able to play at home until a new pitch is laid.

He said: “They have got to come together and sort it out right now. It is a ridiculous situation.

“We need a football pitch. It was the stadium that was built for us and we can’t play there. It is an utter disgrace we’re at this point.”

Robins was not as harsh on keeper Simon Moore for the howler that handed the Lions a way back into the game after Kyle Mcfadzean and Matt Godden had put the Sky Blues two up inside 28 minutes – or on Gustav Hamer for the second-half red card that paved the way for the hosts’ winner.

Robins added: “We let them into the game through our own errors.

“People make mistakes, but it cost us the game.”

Moore gifted Millwall a 36th-minute toehold in the game when he rushed off the line and got nowhere near Scott Malone’s freekick and Jake Cooper’s header bounced in.

The Lions levelled seven minutes after the break through Gareth Honeyman’s volley before George Saville came off the bench to hit the winner.

Boss Gary Rowett said: “We have to defend better for their goals but the players showed a lot of character and energy.”
