Six appeal
SOLOMON MINES LATE WINNER
MANOR SOLOMON made the Premier League his manor for the second week running.
Days after becoming the first Israeli to score in the top flight for five years, the wisdom of Solomon was on show once again.
After his team had been totally outplayed, Fulham’s substitute cut in from the left to strike a glorious goal as the Cottagers leapfrogged Brighton into sixth place.
This time last year, the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder was listening to Russian missiles fall on Ukraine.
Now, he’s celebrating the sweetness of life with two goals in back-to-back wins for Fulham.
As for Brighton, they were reminded there’s a thin line between success and frustration.
A week after falling victim to dodgy VAR drawing of the offside line, this was another case of hard lines for the Seagulls.
They felt wronged when a penalty appeal for a trip on Joel Veltman was turned down and twice had goals ruled out – correctly – for offside.
Solly March and Facundo Buonanotte both had the ball in the net, but neither celebrated for long.
LORD OF THE MANOR:
By Graham Thomas
The hosts could have been 4-0 up inside 12 minutes as Evan Ferguson, March, Pervis Estupinan and Kaoru Mitoma all gave the visitors reason to wince.
Bernd Leno then had to be rapid in coming out to deny Ferguson as the Irish teenager tore up the ground, but somehow Fulham survived.
They were unable to mount much threat themselves and that trend continued into the second half.
And after going close to getting the breakthrough – only to be denied by officials – Fulham snatched a dramatic winner as Carlos Viniciius spun out of a tackle and brilliantly found his fellow substitute Solomon, who finished superbly. BRIGHTON: Sanchez 6; Veltman 6, Webster 6 (Buonanotte (73) 6), Dunk 6, Estupinan 6 (Lamptey (63) 6); Gross 7, Caicedo 7; March 7, Mac Allister 7, Mitoma 6; Ferguson 6 (Undav (73) 6) FULHAM: Leno 8; Tete 6, Diop 7, Ream 7, Robinson 7; Reed 6, Joao Palhinha 6; Wilson 6 (Vinicius (62) 6), Pereira 7 (Solomon (81) 7), Willian 7; De Cordova-reid 6 STAR MAN: Bernd Leno – Manor stole the show, but the foundations were laid by defiance from the German keeper.
