ROTHERHAM boss Matt Taylor is confident his side possesses the character to avoid Championship relegation.

The Millers are hovering just above the dreaded drop-zone and have 13 games to save their season.

They have not won away from home for nearly FOUR months, but Taylor is backing his players to rise to the challenge of trying to stay up.

SWANSEA v ROTHERHAM night’s clash at Swansea City, he said: “Of course we can stay up, but also you can’t hide away from the situation we’re in.

“This group of players has earned the opportunity to try and stay in this league.

“The Championship is relentless and it keeps on hitting you, but it’s where we want to be.”

Rotherham last won away on November 8 with a fine 1-0 victory over promotion-chasers Sheffield United.

But since then, Taylor’s side have won just two of their last 12 league games.

“We’ve had some good performances away from home,” he added.

“But if you win your home games and pick up points away from home, then you’re heading in the right direction.”

Under-fire Swans boss Russell Martin wants to “energise” the club’s travelling supporters after four defeats in their last five league fixtures.

“We have to try and build confidence from somewhere,” said Martin, whose side was beaten by Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City in their previous two matches.

“We care as much as any supporter and on Monday night we have no choice but to try and turn up and energise the fans with the performance which is reciprocated with their support.”
