NEIL WARNOCK hailed his relegation-haunted Huddersfield heroes after the Terriers got a big week off to the perfect start.
Super-sub Danny Ward came off the bench to fire in a 67th-minute winner that hauled the gutsy visitors closer to safety at the foot of the table – and dented Millwall’s play-off hopes.
Huddersfield are reported to be under threat of administration – and if that happened by Thursday then any 12-point deduction would be applied this season.
Veteran caretaker boss Warnock said: “The lads were outstanding, most of them have never worked as hard in their lives. I am really proud of them.
“You can’t have a weakness coming here, it’s as good a result as I’ll ever have. I may have come a month too late, but if we play like that we’ll give it a go.
“It is so important to get this away win as we have such a tough run coming up – and I am pleased for Danny getting his goal.”
Millwall squandered early chances, and Lions keeper George Long saved from Jack Rudoni. On the half-hour Zian Flemming placed his left-foot shot wide.
Warnock was raging when referee Andy Davies failed to award a penalty for Danny Mcnamara’s challenge on Josh Koroma.
But the gutsy Terriers scored after 67 minutes as Ben Jackson dug out a cross that was emphatically fired past Long by Ward at the near post.
Another sub Scott Malone hit the bar with a 97th-minute cross – but Huddersfield held out.
Dejected Millwall boss Gary Rowett said: “We can’t have too many games like today.”
