Don’t judge me if my words live on

- Running with terminal cancer By Kevin Webber justgiving.com/fundraising/kevin-webber9

I don’t know about you, but I’m always humbled if anyone ever asks me to do anything for them.

I guess it’s a bit of an ego boost as they must think I have some form of knowledge or skill that is useful to them.

Never having been a practical guy, what I really have to offer is a positive energy that on occasion I can transfer to others by telling my story.

In the last few weeks many people have been asking me to share the tale of “resilient me”, which has filled my diary with presentations to clubs and work groups all over the UK and Ireland.

It’s a bit of a production line as I must never stop finding new opportunities since every week a few more are completed.

Last week included a talk at a local authority residents’ AGM, which was quite an honour sharing the stage with elected officials who give so much of their life trying to make the borough a better place.

The highlight however was being part of a new initiative, the Why We Run podcast, which does exactly as the name suggests.

For some reason the host, Jon Barnes, felt I’d be the one to feature on the channel’s first episode. You can find the podcast on Spotify and other places on the web if you fancy a listen.

It’s one thing making up my own words for a presentation with time to think about the tone of what I say and the needs of the audience. But it’s a totally different kettle of fish to be put on the spot with quick-fire questions when I’ve no idea who will be listening to me.

That in turn leads to another thought. When I speak to a live audience it’s over and done when I finish, and any slip-ups are probably not noticed.

However, when it’s on a podcast I’ve no idea how long it will exist. Any contentious views I have could be challenged maybe years later.

If that happens I hope the listener realises I was just trying to help and does not get offended.

So if you are asked to help, please try to respond positively, overcome any fear you may have and do your best.

If your intentions are good, you will make a positive difference to someone.

Until next week, Kev
