BOYZONE’S Mikey Graham was among those who paid tribute to Script guitarist Mark Sheehan after his death on Friday at the age of 46.

Mikey, whose bandmate Stephen Gately died suddenly aged 33, said the world had lost “another young legend of music”, and that his music would “carry” him home.

He tweeted: “Today we lost another young legend of music in Mark Sheehan of The Script. I can and do understand the pain Glen and Danny are feeling right now and also their families.

“All my love and support I offer you at this time. You gave the world your music, it will carry you home Mark.”

Sheehan died in hospital on Friday following a brief illness. President Michael D Higgins also paid tribute to the star and sent his personal condolences to his family. He hailed him as an “outstanding” example of Irish “musical success” on the world stage. Describing as a “great honour” The Script’s performance at Aras an Uachtarain in 2013 he said millions who enjoyed his music would be “deeply shocked to hear of his too early death”. Sheehan’s death was announced on the band’s Facebook page just two weeks after their latest gig was announced. The world of music paid tribute to the guitarist with former Westlife singer Brian Mcfadden tweeting: “Devastating news. Mark was one of the good guys.”

Pop duo Jedward said: “Everyone in the Irish music industry and worldwide mourn your loss. RIP Mark, such a talented musician from The Script, one of the most iconic Irish groups of our generation.”

Others who sent their condolences were Lyra, DOI’S Matt Evers, and presenter and stage performer John Barrowman.

Former Love Island host Laura Whitmore wrote: “Thinking of you all at this time. Mark was one of the nicest and most talented men you could meet x.”

Kodaline said in a statement on Twitter: “We had the great fortune of getting to spend time in his company over the years and [he] was always such a lovely man.”
