Mimi’s happiness after heartbreak

Singer finds love with old friend

-

Singer Mimi Webb has spoken for the first time about her romance with pal JP and says: “He’s my best friend… I’m super happy.”

We met the Brit nominee for Best New Artist backstage at The O2 Academy in Sheffield before her gig on Friday. And she opened up about love and says she is thrilled to be on tour and not be heartbroken for once. A smiling Mimi told us: “On all my past tours I’ve been going through break-ups and heartaches – that’s where the whole Amelia album has come from, so it’s nice to be a happy girl on tour this time.

“We’ve been friends for years – we’re best friends – and it was just the right time and it worked out.

“I’ve never done that before, dated someone I’ve known for a while, but it’s a really nice, healthy way of doing it.”

As we chatted, JP was hanging out with the crew. And Mimi, who couldn’t keep the grin off her face when talking about him, said: “Everyone loves him. We were soundchecking earlier and he was dancing on the stage.

“He’s been there with me since the start so he knows everything. It’s really lovely.”

So does this spell the end for Mimi’s track record in heartbreak hits?

“I think it’s nice for fans to see me happy,” she said. “I’m in a different place now and I’m really excited to see where my music goes next.

“I feel like Amelia showed people what I can do as a songwriter and I’m ready to mix it up a bit more.”

If the crowd at the O2 Academy on Friday was anything to go by, Mimi will be a big hit whatever she does.

Fans at the packed-out venue - who had queued for hours in the rain – joined Mimi to sing along as she kicked off with Ghost of You, before following with hits Remind You and See You Soon. But it was with finale, House on Fire, that Mimi really brought this house down.
